Sergio Rodriguez running for school board seat

Chris Caya/WBFO News

Fresh from losing the mayor's race last month, Sergio Rodriguez is ramping up another campaign. With City Hall as a backdrop, Rodriguez announced Tuesday morning he is seeking a seat on the Buffalo Board of Education. Rodriguez is running for one of the board's three at-large seats.

Rodriguez says he will be focusing on attendance, parental involvement, and preparing students for the jobs of today. And he says he'll work with everyone.

"When we're looking at pointing fingers, whether it's the superintendent [or] particular school board members or personalities, we're missing the point. We have to focus on what needs to be done," Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez ran on the Republican line in November and won support from roughly one-third of city voters in losing to incumbent Democrat Byron Brown.

The three current at-large members of the board are President Barbara Seals Nevergold, Florence Johnson, and John Licata.
