Funeral service for Trooper Ross Riley

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at St. Bonaventure University’s Reilly Center for State Police Trooper Ross Riley.

The Allegany resident died last week during a training exercise in Letchworth State Park. Trooper Riley was fell into the gorge during a high-angle rescue exercise. An investigation into his death continues.

State Police Superintendent Joseph D'Amico says thousands of officers came to Olean to pay their respects.

"Trooper Riley was a great guy.  He was one of our best," D'Amico said.  "He was part of the team we go to when we need help as troopers."

Riley, a 17-year veteran of the state police, leaves behind a wife, also a state trooper based in Olean.  He is the father of three young children -- ages 10, 8 and 3.

Trooper Riley was 44-years old.
