"Trooper Riley was a great guy.  He was one of our best," D'Amico said.  "He was part of the team we go to when we need help as troopers."

Riley, a 17-year veteran of the state police, leaves behind a wife, also a state trooper based in Olean.  He is the father of three young children -- ages 10, 8 and 3.

Trooper Riley was 44-years old.
