A Genesee County town justice has agreed to leave the bench and never to seek another judicial post. The resignation of Pembroke Town Justice Robert Alexander followed the filing of charges against him by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. He has been suspended from the post since August 22.
The formal charges say Alexander had not properly supervised the court clerk and money is missing, written receipts are missing in 370 court cases, and cases were not reported or money turned in to Albany in a timely manner.
The judge was also charged with reducing charges in his past service as Corfu village justice so the money went to the village rather than the state treasury. One of the charges involves the appointment of his daughter as Corfu village court clerk without permission and approval from Albany.
Alexander will leave the bench November 15. He has been a town justice since 2006 and was Corfu village justice from 1989 to April of this year.
