The oldest continuously operating bar in Buffalo has to shut down for failing to keep up with its payment plan after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year. The Buffalo News reports that a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge on Tuesday signed an order converting the case of Ulrich's Tavern from reorganization to liquidation. The move is expected to force the 145-year-old bar and restaurant to shut its doors for good.
The historic saloon on Ellicott Street was shuttered briefly after owner Jim Daley Jr. filed for bankruptcy in August 2012. It opened a few weeks later after Daly made changes to his business.
But thousands of dollars in back taxes and other debts continued to pile up for Ulrich's, which was opened in 1868 by a German immigrant.
