The man who set fire to his Town of Tonawanda home Monday was apparently planning kill first responders. Tonawanda Police Lt. Nick Bado says investigators found several long guns of various caliber in the burned out home of 60-year-old Joseph Hollywood. He says Hollywood's body was positioned between pieces of furniture with an oxygen tank that had a hand-held mouthpiece.
"Investigators are confident that he was positioned there so that he would be able to engage any police that came in there looking for him in a shootout," Bado says.
Hollywood had 18 run-ins with the law in the past ten years. To avoid a confrontation, his home was allowed to burn for more than three hours before a SWAT team scoured the property and gave firefighters the all clear.
Bado says an autopsy has determined that Hollywood died of smoke inhalation.
Emergency demolition of Hollywood's Fries Road home is now underway.
