The Buffalo Bills are turning to Thad Lewis as their starter, promoting the untested quarterback off the practice squad.According to the Bills' Twitter feed, Lewis will be make his second career start on Sunday when the Bills host the Cincinnati Bengals. Lewis started at quarterback for the Detroit Lions against the Cleveland Browns in 2012.
Coach Doug Marrone said, "Thad gives us the best chance. We're going to give him the opportunity to see what he has.".
Lewis will be filling in for EJ Manuel, who is out indefinitely. The rookie sprained his right knee in a loss to Cleveland on Thursday.
The Bills acquired Lewis in trade with Detroit in August after Manuel was sidelined with a left knee injury and veteran Kevin Kolb sustained a season-ending concussion.
