A state audit of the Town of Amherst's books is reporting some deficiencies. The State of New York Comptrollers Office identified $2 million in reserve funds that were not properly accounted for and found problems with the Town's fleet management program. Amherst Comptroller Darlene Carroll defended the town's actions, claiming Amherst uses an accepted practice of reporting reserve funds on financial statements.
The management of fleet vehicles is the responsibility of each department, all of which report to the town.
