New group gives non-profit professionals chance to network

Networking groups are pretty common in the business world. Now, there is a local network for workers in non-profit organizations. The Greater Buffalo Chapter of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network kicked off its first meeting Tuesday night with 150 people booked to attend the event in the Hotel @ The Lafayette. The meeting was announced using the group's website, Twitter and Facebook.

Ryan Daley is part of the new group's leadership team. Daley says many non-profits can't offer much training, but the new group will.

"Part of our presence within the greater Buffalo region is to give them some of those skills that individuals may be weaker at. Maybe they are strong at social media but [need] face-to-face skills in order to engage individuals, groups, and communities," Daley said.

Daley says his background is as a social worker but the non-profit field is getting sector switchers from the for-profit world, bringing in people with more traditional for-profit job skills like financial management and marketing.
