Niagara County is finding itself in a negotiating bind with three of its six labor unions. An impasse has been declared with the Deputy Sheriffs Association, the Civil Service Employees Association and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The county was hoping that negotiations could lead to a reduction in step salary increases and an employee contribution to health insurance coverage.
The unions have balked at these proposals and are threatening to fight a long battle to get what they believe is fair.
The county is weighing the rising legal costs in these negotiations.
