The man widely considered to be the oldest living person in the world has died. Grand Island resident Salustiano Sanchez, also known as "Shorty," passed away on Friday at the age of 112. Sanchez was born in Spain in June of 1901. He came to the US in 1920, following jobs around the country until settling in Western New York. For the past 6 years, Sanchez has been a resident at the Riverwood Health Care Facility.

The Guinness World Records identified Sanchez as the world's oldest living person after the death of a 116-year-old Japanese man in June.
