Man fatally struck on Thruway identified

State Police are continuing their investigation into the Thursday Thruway incident in which a pedestrian was struck by a passing tractor-trailer.

The victim, identified Friday as 26-year-old Brenden Ballacchino of Orchard Park, had apparently pulled his vehicle to the side of the road before he was struck near the William Street exit.

Officials closed all eastbound lanes between Exits 53 and 52A in Cheektowaga for several hours, snarling traffic in the midst of the evening rush hour. The eastbound Thruway at the accident site was closed for more than three hours as state police investigators tried to piece together what happened.

The lanes were re-opened shortly before 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call State Police at 935-6570.
