Democratic mayoral candidate Bernie Tolbert is criticizing the Buffalo Board of Education on the presentation of their turnaround plan for failing schools. Tolbert didn't target the content of the plan so much as take issue with how the plan was made public. The candidate claims that the board violated conditions of New York State's Open Meetings Law by voting on the plan before many board members or the public had a chance to review it.
He emphasized his intent to create greater public access to the board's actions and to provide mayoral oversight of the board.
