A strike appears to have been averted at the Goodyear Dunlop plant in Tonawanda. Members of Steelworkers Local 135 in Buffalo were prepared to walk off the job at midnight on Saturday if an agreement was not in place. Union leaders claim that a tentative agreement has been reached, and 950 local workers and nearly 8,000 employees overall will remain on the job until the contract is reviewed and a vote is held. Details of the agreement are not available, though it is known that wages, healthcare, pensions and vacation benefits were among the issues being deliberated.
Ratification votes on the contract are expected to be scheduled soon.
