PBS President Paula Kerger was the morning lecturer at the Chautauqua Institution Friday. Kerger talked about the role of public media and how it engages communities across the country.Kerger says the primary role of public television is to educate, entertain and enlighten people of all ages.

"For many Americans, public media is their opportunity to be exposed to so many subjects.  It is their way to explore our national parks, learn more about prohibition or the dust bowl, or take a critical look at difficult moments in our nation's history, like the trial of the Central Park Five," Kerger said.

Kerger says PBS is also embracing new technology to share its content on various platforms, including the web and social media.
