A donation by a longtime partner of the Food Bank of WNY will help fight childhood hunger this summer.
Citizens Bank presented a check totaling $20,000 to the Food Bank at one of its member agencies on Buffalo's West Side Wednesday.
Agency Services Director Christine Rivera says in the past decade, the bank's donations have provided more than a half-million meals to children in Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties. Rivera says demand increases in July and August when children are out of school and not receiving free lunches.
"Through our 340 member agencies, we are able to reach 37,000 children each month," Rivera says.
This summer, Citizens Bank is donating $60,000 to food banks across New York. Senior Vice President Stephen Scello says Citizens is proud to partner with the Food Bank.
"It's programs like this that ensure that the kids in our community don't go hungry," Scello says.
