A limited state of emergency was declared in the City of Niagara Falls on Saturday as clean-up from Friday night's damaging storms continued. As much as 4 inches of rain fell in parts of the city, and winds downed trees and power lines. The Wastewater Treatment Plant suffered a temporary service outage after the plant's pumps were submerged under rainwater. The state of emergency was lifted mid-afternoon, but motorists should still be cautious of downed tree limbs and some possible nonworking traffic lights.
National Grid continues to work to restore power to all customers in Western New York. The utility is reporting more than 2500 customers still without power, many in the northtowns and in Niagara County.
Estimates indicate that electricity should be restored to most all homes this afternoon.
