Expressway road work to cause lane closures

Drivers can expect temporary lane closures on Route 33 over the next several months.

State DOT Public Information Officer Susan Surdej says resurfacing work on the Expressway's lane and ramps is being done as part of an $11 million repaving project.

"We're going to do most of the work at night so that we can have the least effect possible on the motorists and commuters that use the Kensington Expressway every day," Surdej says.

Surdej says work requiring significant lane restrictions will be conducted primarily at night, starting Tuesday on the outbound 33 between downtown Buffalo and Harlem Road in Cheektowaga.

Lane reductions will be in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Surdej says there will always be at least one lane open at those times.

The project will include drainage improvements and new signage. It is expected to be completed by August of 2014.
