Lawmakers move to abolish bridge authority

WBFO File Photo

A pair of local politicians have proposed legislation that will dissolve the authority that oversees the Peace Bridge. Republican Senator Mark Grisanti and Democratic Assemblyman Sean Ryan claim that the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority has become ineffective. According to Grisanti, "Public authorities are often too arrogant, unaccountable and lack transparency. The PBA is all of the above and it is time that we shut down this dysfunctional authority. The people of Western New York deserve better." Grisanti and Ryan also claim that state law mandates that the authority not exist in perpetuity with an obsolescence date of no later than 2020.

The pair are looking to transfer authority for the international crossing to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority.
