Pedestrian killed along 290

Photo from NITTEC Camera

A teenager was killed when he was hit by a tractor-trailer while running across the 290 early Thursday morning. Police in Tonawanda say the 18-year-old man apparently had run across the eastbound lanes of Interstate 290 between Colvin Boulevard and Delaware Avenue and was in the westbound lanes when he was hit by the truck.

The driver told police he saw someone on the highway but couldn't stop in time.

A stretch of I-290's westbound lanes was closed from the time of the accident around 1 a.m. until about 7 a.m. Thursday.

The teen has been identified as Marc Zellner.

No charges have been filed against the driver.
