Soon the sound of "play ball" will echo from Coca-Cola Field in downtown Buffalo. Bisons ground crews are preparing for the new season, but cold, wintry weather remains. On Monday, grounds crew worked to mow the outfield at Coca-Cola Field for the first time this season.
Bisons assistant grounds keeper Nick Harville rode a ride-on mower across the field.
Opening Day is just 18 days away, Thursday, April 4 against the Rochester Red Wings at 2:05 p.m.
But as the Bisons think spring, the National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of the Western New York Region.
The Winter Weather Advisory is posted for Southern Erie, Wyoming and Chautauqua Counties until 6 a.m. Tuesday. That includes includes the cities of Orchard Park, Springville, Warsaw, and Jamestown.
A Wind Advisory is also posted for Southern Erie and Chautauqua Counties until midnight Monday. The advisory areas should expect sleet, rain, freezing rain and snow.
Sleet could accumulate up to two inches. Ice of up to one-tenth of an inch is also possible.
Winds will will be gusting up to 50 miles an hour. The conditions of rain, freezing rain and sleet will continue into Monday night with windy and cold conditions.
In the metro Buffalo and Niagara Falls are snow, rain and sleet will develop early Monday afternoon with an inch or less accumulation. Winds will gust up to 40 miles per hour.
