Gun buyback programs were offered in Niagara County for the first time on Saturday. Both Niagara Falls and Lockport used funds seized in drug arrests to provide cash incentives to anyone bringing in unwanted firearms. As much as $100 dollars were offered for any assault rifles that were surrendered. Early estimates indicated that as many as 200 guns had been collected.
All of the guns purchased will be destroyed to prevent their showing up on area streets.
