The historic Fairfield Library in North Buffalo is transforming into an apartment building. The building has been falling apart since it was closed as a casualty of the county's Red/Green budget fiasco. After years of nothing happening, the city sold the building to Creative Structures Services.
Now, company president David Pawlik says construction is about half done, with plans to start leasing the five apartments and the office space in late March or early April.
Pawlik says the building's condition wasn't helped by it sitting vacant since the library was closed.
"We've actually put two brand new roofs on, the peaked roof and the flat roof. We've replaced all the old clapboard and cedar shakes that were damaged and broken. We repainted the exterior," Pawlik said.
The parking will serve the five apartments and the office space all of which Pawlik says will be very desirable to prospective tenants.
