A man who has served the Niagara Falls Police Department for more than 40 years is retiring.
Superintendent John R. Chella will be leaving his post at the end of the month. Chella, 63, intended to retire last year, but contractual issues regarding retirement benefits forced him to maintain his post. His career began 42 years ago as a cop with a street beat. He worked his way up the ranks until becoming Superintendent 9 years ago.
A successor to the post has yet to be named.
