Bike path crash kills two

Two people were killed Sunday afternoon when a motorcycle crashed onto the Amherst Bike Path.

Police have charged 53-year-old David Smith of Niagara Falls with criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated after his motorcycle veered from Tonawanda Creek Road and crashed into a group of pedestrians on the bike path between Campbell Boulevard and Hopkins Road.

25-year-old Jocelyn Elberson of Tonawanda and 81-year-old Sheila Pelton were pronounced dead at Milalrd Fillmore Suburban Hospital.

Pelton's husband, 79-year-old Foster Pelton, was taken to ECMC for treatment of serious injuries.

Smith was also hospitalized for treatment of injuries.
