Confidential files held by the Boy Scouts of America show that information was being compiled regarding 13 area men who were ultimately banned from the Scouting organization.

The files were reviewed by the Buffalo News after a court order demanded their release. Self-policing by the organization appears to have prevented 9 of the 13 from becoming involved in Scouting anywhere in the US due to criminal suspicions or actual charges. Four other cases did not weed out men with criminal histories from entering the organization, and there are reports of malfeasance by those Scouting leaders.

Efforts are being made by the Boy Scouts to improve their oversight of Scouting leadership.
