The Cuomo Administration is apparently willing to consider Rep. Brian Higgins' recent call for removing the Buffalo Skyway.
During a stop downtown for a progress report on Canalside, Lt. Governor Robert Duffy touted the billion dollars Governor Andrew Cuomo has pledged for economic development.
Duffy said there is a process in place for requesting funding for Skyway demolition. He said if the Regional Economic Development Council lists the project as a top priority, then "the state is certainly going to listen."
"It's going to need federal help with the congressman. But for state help and local help, there's no better place to go, no better vehicle than the Economic Development Council," Duffy said.
Higgins says demolishing the Skyway will spur growth on valuable waterfront land. He has called the elevated highway a barrier to access.
On another matter, Duffy called a local developer's plan for a covered stadium on the Outer Harbor a very interesting concept, but says he's not sure the region's stakeholders are involved.
Duffy said one thing he does know is the governor is committed to keeping the Bills in Buffalo and talks with the team for a new lease at Ralph Wilson Stadium are ongoing.
