Right next to the new Centennial Pool in LaSalle Park, Buffalo's skateboarders are getting a new home for a skate park.
The new plaza will be on two acres of land now a maintenance and pipe storage yard for the city's water authority on the edge of a stub of Jersey Street in the park.
Actual construction is expected to cost around $250,000 and be finished in the middle of next summer.
The city is holding a hearing to get skater comment Wednesday evening in The Belle Center on Maryland, as plans are completed.
Mayor Brown says he sees where skaters operate now "coming out into traffic," including on a ramp onto the 33.
"Routinely I found myself stopping and speaking to some of the skateboarders and asking them if we built the skate park would you use it and would you stop skating in the areas that maybe are not as safe as they could be. And, the answer to a person was, yes."
The skate park is being designed by a Canadian firm which specializes in design of the parks, with ramps designed for the individual communities.
