Local Coast Guard officials were tasked with watching the activities of last winter's Occupy Buffalo protests.

According to The Buffalo News, attorneys for the protesters learned of the monitoring operations through documents obtained through a Freedom of Information request.

In response, Coast Guard officials say the monitoring took place to ensure there was no threat to the local port.

With a few exceptions, Occupy Buffalo protests in Niagara Square were orderly and law-abiding.
