Saying goodbye to Navy Week in Buffalo

WBFO News photo by Eileen Buckley

Navy Week in Buffalo officially concludes Monday evening.  The US Brig Niagara will be leaving Canalside.

The ship is a 198-foot reconstruction of the relief flagship of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry in the Battle of Lake Erie during of the War of 1812.

The US Brig has been docked at the Central Wharf at Canalside since Wednesday, September 12.  It departs Monday night 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Over the weekend, Navy Week events included U.S. Navy "Leap Frogs".  They landed at the Canalside and at the Buffalo Zoo.

The elite Navy parachute team wooed crowds as they jumped from about 12,500 feet, arriving with flawless landings.

The Buffalo Zoo celebrated Fleet Week Sunday with the Navy SEALS parachuting event right into the Zoo near Delaware Park.

The photos were taken by WBFO & AM-970 listener Art Giacalone.

The sequence of photos shows the Navy "Leap Frogs" arriving over the Zoo and landing.
