A significant toll hike on the New York State Thruway is appearing to be a near certainty.
A 45 percent rate hike has been proposed for vehicles that possess three or more axles. Thruway officials claim that the rate hike is necessary to maintain the fiscal health of the agency. A portion of the news funds are expected to pay for a new Tappan Zee Bridge near New York City and to maintain the Erie Canal.
Opponents argue that the hike will translate into higher prices for consumer goods.
