Streetscape project for Lovejoy

$1.3 million  in city capital improvement funds will be used to replace lighting and update streetscapes in three commercial strips in the city's Lovejoy neighborhood.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown  and Common Council president Richard Fontana made the announcement Tuesday.

Fontana said it will improve the neighborhoods for residents and businesses.

"This is a beautification," said Fontana.  "We are trying to strengthen the area to attract more people and new business. That's really the goal of this, to attract new people give existing residents that have been there a long time a reason to stay and give new people a reason to come."

Installation of the new LED light standards, and construction of bike lanes, new sidewalks and curbs along East Lovejoy Street, Clinton Street, and East Delavan Avenue are scheduled for next year. Similar improvements are pending for the Elmwood Village and Fillmore Avenue neighborhoods.

“These types of projects only add to the quality of life for the residents and businesses in the area. Significant infrastructure improvements like this also strengthen the neighborhoods and help attract new investment into the area," said Mayor Brown.

The Lovejoy project should be completed by next summer.

Similar streetscape projects are also planned for the Fillmore Avenue area and Elmwood Avenue area.
