With a combination of state and federal dollars, a massive reconstruction project is underway along Union Road in the heart of West Seneca's business district.
Rep. Brian Higgins joined State Senator Tim Kennedy and West Seneca Town Supervisor Sheila Meegan to announce progress on the $1.3 million road improvement project. As part of the transportation bill, Higgins secured $800,000, while the State Department of Transportation is providing $500,000.
Darrell Kaminski, acting regional director for the DOT, says a 1.2 mile section of Union Road is receiving improvements, including streetscape enhancement, pedestrian crosswalks, and a bike lane.
"We're going to be narrowing the roadway to provide a better accommodation for bicyclists and the sidewalk and ramp improvements...will provide a more walkable community," Kaminski said.
Paving along Union will be completed later this week, with full completion expected this November.
