The Department of Environmental Conservation is planning for contaminated soil clean up in the Village of Middleport.
Testing at nearly two hundred sites showed a majority had high levels of arsenic in the soil. The chemical emanated from an FMC Corporation plant that handled arsenic as late as the 1980's. FMC will pay for the nearly $24 million operation.
There has been some public opposition to the clean-up, claiming that it reduces property values.
Public meetings will be held later this month.
