Area shoppers who have accounts with HSBC or First Niagara Banks may have faced some frustration over the weekend.

More than one hundred HSBC offices closed on Friday afternoon as they transition to First Niagara branches for Monday morning's business. Debit cards from HSBC were voided on Friday afternoon. Online banking customers with First Niagara saw their accounts go offline on Saturday at noon. Those accounts are expected to be back online sometime on Monday.

First Niagara is one of four financial institutions in New York and Connecticut that have purchased HSBC retail operations.
