WBFO, AM 970 News

A man who narrowly averted death just weeks ago was killed in an early morning fire on Saturday.

The as yet unidentified victim was recently pulled to safety from the subway tracks at the Utica Street station after falling unconscious and tumbling into the path of an oncoming train. The fifty-nine year old man was killed when his Bailey Avenue apartment was consumed by fire.

Rescue efforts were unsuccessful, though another occupant did escape the blaze.

Smoking in bed is thought to be the cause of the fire.
