Bill amendment should save jobs at Falls base

Congresswoman Kathy Hochul is claiming victory in the battle to keep the 107th Airlift Wing active at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.

In an early morning communication, Hochul's office reported that an amendment added to the Defense Authorization Act should prevent proposed Pentagon cuts to the Air National Guard.

Before heading into the late night session as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Hochul spoke of the growing support of the Air National Guard, much of it supplied by Governors.

In the prepared statement, Hochul called the job-saving effort at the Falls base "an ongoing process."

The committee bill must pass the full House and Senate before it can be enacted.
