Six Flags and a shot: Vaccination clinic offers park tickets as incentive

Six Flags Darien Lake

Six Flags Darien Lake is teaming up with the Genesee County Health Department to offer a free COVID-19 vaccination clinic Tuesday.

Vaccines will be given at the park’s Human Resources Building 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Anyone participating will receive two complimentary tickets to visit the park in 2021.

Walk-ins will be accepted for the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Appointments are required for the two-dose Pfizer vaccine and can be made on the state’s vaccine website.

Over the weekend, Erie County offered its "Shot and Chaser" program, which provided a free beer with each person's vaccination shot at Resurgence Brewing Co. County Executive Mark Poloncarz said the line was out the door, as more people were vaccinated in a few hours than during a full 12-hour day at usual county clinics.

More businesses are being sought to offer vaccination incentives, as the COVID-19 positivity rate In the Western New York region remains nearly double the state rate.

The Western New York rate was 2.57% Sunday, reflecting 133 cases in Erie County alone, the highest outside New York City (844) and Monroe County (222). Genesee County reported 15 cases Sunday.

The state positivity rate was 1.32% Sunday. Gov. Andrew Cuomo also said 60% of adult New Yorkers have received at least one vaccine dose and 48.4% have completed their vaccine series.
