Bottled water is being distributed in Fredonia, as a state of emergency continues due to problems with the village's water system.
Water will be distributed Thursday 8 a.m.-11 a.m. and 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Streets Department, 176 Eagle Street.
The state of emergency began Saturday, after the village water supply was tested above the maximum-allowed level of turbidity.
Turbidity is cloudiness and has no health effects, but the village said it can interfere with disinfection and provide an environment for bacteria, viruses and parasites to grow. They can cause health symptoms, such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea and headaches.
Residents are advised to boil any water before using it, drink bottled water and conserve water when possible. This includes customers in the Town of Pomfret who obtain their water from the village.
