Residents of the Schoellkopf Health Center in Niagara Falls are being allowed to have visitors. Visiting has been barred since mid-March because of COVID-19.
Residents of the 95-bed nursing home have been allowed to go outside for a while into the adjacent park. Now they can receive up to two visitors at a time for a half-hour.
Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center President and CEO Joe Ruffolo said it will be great for the residents and their loved ones.
"The residents haven't been able to meet face-to-face with their loved ones for several months. We have special accommodations outdoor in the beautiful Schoellkopf Park, where they can join their loved ones," Ruffalo said. "It's for them to smell the fresh air and listen to the birds and listen to the fountain. I'm sure it's going to be very, very soothing for them. I can't wait to see their faces when they come outside."
Visiting will be by appointment because the facility is allowing only 20 visitors at a time, meeting with 10 residents in the park. Ruffalo said there are 95 residents in the facility currrently.
