Amherst approves rezoning for new UBMD surgery center

Amherst Town Board

The Amherst Town Board has cleared the way for the first step on what will be a long road for Amherst Central Park.

The board Monday night approved rezoning property at 500 Maple Road, between Amherst Manor Drive and North Forest Road, for a proposed new surgery center for UBMD. That is the first sign of bricks and mortar after eight years of debate over the future of the former Westwood Country Club and the Town’s Audubon golf course.

UBMD plans a two-story 195,000-square-foot facility, with a four-story 350,000-square-foot parking ramp, located next to the Northtown Center. The project still has further stages in the approval process, but could lead to actual construction late this year.
