Longtime Naval Park docent dies of COVID-19

Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park

The Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park is reporting the loss of one of its longtime docents to COVID-19.

Park President and CEO Paul Marzello said Walter Monahan, 74, of Kenmore became the second person in Erie County to die from the virus. That total has now risen to seven.

In addition to being a docent, Monahan was a Vietnam Veteran and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph's University Parish.

The Park would have opened for the 2020 season this week, but has delayed its opening until further notice. It has also postponed all programs scheduled in April and May due to the virus.
