Wegmans, Tops increase social distancing at the checkout

Plexiglas shields are coming to a supermarket checkout near you.

Both Tops and Wegmans have announced plans to install those shields in the coming days to help ensure the health and safety of its checkout employees and customers.

In a release, Wegmans said the shields will be installed at their pharmacies and front-end registers.

Tops added that if there is a shortage of Plexiglas and shields can't be installed, face shields will be provided to employees. Workers have already been provided with gloves and wipes.

Additional social distancing measures and hand sanitizing stations will also be enacted in the two supermarket chains, and increased efforts are being made to keep surfaces such as conveyor belts cleaned and sanitized.
