Wegmans, Tops limit shopping hours due to COVID-19

Wegmans and Tops are both making another shift in their hours, in the wake of the big run in recent days on various products as many customers try to stock up due to concerns about the coronavirus.

Wegmans recently stopped 24-hour operation at some stores, closing from midnight-6 a.m. Now, Wegmans says it will have all stores open from 7 a.m.-10 p.m.

Wegmans says it needs the additional off-hours to help restock and clean the stores. It also has limited purchases of some products, as other stores have also done.

The supermarket chain also has temporarily closed all Market Café and Pub seating.

"You’ll also see that we’ve implemented a 2-item purchase limit on certain products, allowing us to meet the needs of as many customers as possible," said Wegmans President and CEO Colleen Wegman in a statement. "We are adapting quickly and will always put the needs of our employees and our customers first."

Tops Markets is also changing its hours. Starting Wednesday, hours of operation will be to 6 a.m.-10 p.m. That gives stores the overnight hours to restock and continue to maintain increased sanitation levels in their stores.

Tops supermarkets that typically close earlier will maintain their existing hours of operation.
