The Catholic Health System plans to cut back its work force by some 200 positions in a cost-cutting move. More than 100 positions are being eliminated after employee buyouts that were offered last month, while another 100 or so will be removed via layoffs, job vacancies and consolidations.
An undisclosed number of non-clinical workers were offered the buyouts, in response to changing models of delivering health care across the country. The reductions, in both management and non-management positions, will be enacted over the next two months.
Catholic Health officials said the changes are meant to "right-size the organization and improve operational efficiencies without compromising patient care." They come after the health care system announced a hiring freeze, although signsemain outside some of its locations requesting health aides apply for positions.
