Mental Health Awareness Month events in Buffalo and NY

Here are some of the events being held for Mental Health Awareness Month:

May 3 -- A mental health awareness fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the central library, 1 Lafayette Square in Buffalo.

May 3 -- The National Alliance for Mental Illness/Buffalo & Erie Co. will hold its annual dinner and awards celebration from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event will be held at Salvatore's Italian Gardens, 6461 Transit Rd, Depew. Keynote speaker Dr. Kafui Dzirasa will discuss his neuroscience research.

 May 5 -- What's Great in Our State will honor people and programs addressing the issue of children's mental health across the state. The event begins at noon in Huxley auditorium, New York State Museum, Albany.

May 9 -- Keith O’Neil, former linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants, will discuss his experience with bipolar in a talk called “Tackling Mental Health Issues.” The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 350 Saratoga Road, Amherst. May 10 -- A benefit for the crisis counseling program at Crisis Services will be held at Choco-Logo, 141 Broadway, Buffalo. Wine and chocolate pairing events are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25; reservations can be made at www.chocologo.com/eventsor 716.855.3500.
