New York State has taken measures to help women overcome hurdles that prevent them from getting breast cancer screenings.
On Sunday Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie announced new legislation that improves access to breast cancer screenings.
There will be extended screening hours at 210 hospital-based mammography facilities in New York State. The new legislation eliminates co-payments and cost-sharing for mammograms and diagnostic imaging for breast cancer. It also grants public employees four hours of paid leave for screenings.
