ECMC showed off its new $15 million ambulatory surgery center Monday with two operating rooms in a new building on the Grider Street campus. CEO Jody Lomeo says the addition clears some room in the main operating room areas in the main building.
"Predominantly, these will be orthopedics. What we have found is with transplant, with the consolidation of transplant which came from Buffalo General, the continual growth of our trauma program and even the orthopedic program, we needed to remove some of those outpatient procedures out of the main tower," said Lomeo.
Lomeo says the hospital expects to do 2,000 surgeries in the two current rooms in the new year and there are two other areas designed to hold future additional outpatient operating rooms.
Location of the surgical suites in the Ambulatory Center means patients come in through a different entrance to a different building on the campus and leave the same way, rather than through the main entrance.
