With New Era gift, Roswell expansion to proceed

Chris Caya/WBFO News

A large gift from a Buffalo-based company has capped off 'The Campaign to Build a Greater Roswell Park.'

The cancer institute announced Thursday that a $1.5 million donation from New Era Cap Co. has pushed the $40 million campaign over the top and Roswell's expansion plan can now move forward.

New Era CEO Christopher Koch  says knowing so many people who are touched by cancer, it makes sense for the company to help out.

"My wife was treated here this year. Years ago, my father came here. We have 800 employees in Western New York, so we know that many of them have come here for treatment," Koch said.

Roswell Park's expansion plan includes constructing an 11-story Clinical Sciences Center at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Carlton Street for expanding the Chemotherapy Clinic.

A groundbreaking is expected in the spring.
