OSHA cites Orchard Park company for asbestos violations

An Orchard Park contractor has been cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for eight alleged workplace safety violations at a Buffalo worksite.

An OSHA inspector discovered that Aria Contracting employees were removing asbestos and asbestos-containing materials from a former warehouse at 2925 Main Street without wearing protective suits and respiratory protection.

OSHA says it also found employees had not been properly trained on asbestos hazards and the employer failed to conduct initial exposure monitoring to determine airborne concentrations of asbestos.

A worker also fell 30 feet while climbing from an elevated basket of a scissor lift.

OSHA has proposed fines totaling $56,000 against the contractor.
