$2.5M REDI project begins in Orleans County

Yates Town Park
Office of the Governor
This latest REDI project will take place in Yates Town Park in Orleans County.

Another project in New York's Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI) has begun.

The $2.5 million project is in the town of Yates, in Orleans County, and is part of an over $300 million state investment for communities along the lake and the St. Lawrence River.

The Yates Town Park is the only public recreation space with direct access to the lake and has over an acre of open space, with a pavilion and picnic area. Historic Lake Ontario flooding in 2019 resulted in substantial shoreline erosion and park flooding damage due to poor runoff conditions.

The park closed to the public on Monday and will remain closed while construction work continues to mitigate future flooding and upgrade park facilities.

Mark Wozniak, WBFO's local All Things Considered host, has been at WBFO since mid-1978.
